Prelude to Yorktown 1781 — Lafayette vs. Cornwallis in Virginia Program Presentation

Join us in our Sandra and William H. Speiden auditorium for a presentation by historian Andrew Gutowski on the military movements of Generals Lafayette and Cornwallis as they positioned their armies at Yorktown, Virginia in 1781. Historical Sewing Classes – Make your own 1825 gown

Register by January 29 for this series of FOUR Class series held Wednesdays 5 to 7 pm at Culpeper Library.

Intermediate to Experienced – $100 for the series.

1st Class is February 19, 2025 5 – 7 pm
2nd Class is March 5 , 2025 5 – 7 pm
3rd Class is March 19, 2025 5 – 7 pm
Final Class is April 2, 2025 5 – 7 pm

The workshops will focus on custom-fitting the basic gown and helping you create a day or evening gown that is fashionable in the 1820s period, using historical and modern sewing techniques.

The Colonial Militia – Its Dress, Arms, and Equipment

This summer is the 250th anniversary of the creation of the Culpeper Minutemen militia. Join us as local historian Dennis Loba discusses the typical clothing, weapons, and accouterments worn and used by local colonists before and at the beginning of the American Revolution.

This program will be held at the museum. Space is limited so get your ticket today! Admission is $5 per person but Museum members get in FREE.

Annual Relic Hunt at Liberty Hall

8am to 4 pm

Liberty Hall will be holding our annual seeded and natural relic hunt on SUNDAY April 6th 2025.

Early registration through January 15 is $125 per hunter, payable at registration. (Venmo is preferred to @LibertyHallVa). Email or PM us for other payment options.

This will be a combination seeded and natural hunt. We will have thousands of dollars worth of relics seeded (or by token) on the property, plus the opportunity to hunt for natural relics.

Revolutionary Culpeper Walking Tour

Did you know that Culpeper played an important role in supporting the revolutionary cause in Virginia and in the events that influenced American independence? This walking tour explores the people, places, and events shaped by Culpeper’s patriots and how these activities were written into the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, and other founding documents in this downtown walking tour led by staff and volunteers of the Museum of Culpeper History. Stories include the Culpeper Minute Men, religious liberty, western expansion, and the changing definitions of freedom. Participants should wear comfortable shoes, bring their own water, and dress appropriately for weather conditions.

Colonial Allies Challenge Cup, US vs. FR Military Polo Championship

To celebrate America’s French Alliance and in honor General Lafayette’s Bicentennial visit, Liberty Hall Polo Club is hosting the 1st Annual Colonial Allies Challenge Cup.

This USPA International and Armed Forces tournament is a series polo games, both field and arena, between US Armed Forces and French Armed Forces members.

The Championship match will be held at Liberty Hall’s grass field amphitheater on August 24, 2025.
