As Culpeper reflects on its rich history and prepares to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, the community is invited to rediscover one of its most influential native sons. “Culpeper’s Greatest Preacher” will be held on April 22 at noon at Culpeper Baptist Church, highlighting the life and legacy of John A. Broadus—a figure whose impact on preaching, education, and Southern life continues to be felt today.

Join us for an evening exploring Culpeper’s role in the history of religious liberty, beginning with the imprisonment of 11 Baptist preachers during the colonial era and tracing how those events helped shape a founding principle of our nation. This collaborative program, hosted by Culpeper Baptist Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the Islamic Center of Culpeper, will also reflect on the ongoing impact of religious freedom in our community today.

Culpeper VA250 – 4th of July Freedom 5K

This family-friendly race offers more than just a run.  Participants will travel through the beautiful and historic Yowell Meadow Park while celebrating Culpeper’s rich Revolutionary War heritage as part of the nationwide America250 celebration.  Whether you are a competitive runner, casual walker, or patriotic history lover, the Freedom 5K offers something for everyone.

This year’s race supports the Museum of Culpeper History, helping preserve and share the stories that shaped our community and our nation.
